The Australian Olympic Youth Festival was a successful trip for Team England. Finishing runners up in the team, fourth in the singles, and winning a gold medal in the Boy's doubles with team-mate Paul Drinkhall.

Before Fred Perry, Darius was sponsored by Nittaku and DHS (Double Happiness). This was one of Darius' first modelling sessions. For several years, Darius used Nittaku blades and a combination of DHS Hurricane 3 on the forehand and varius Nittaku rubbers on the backhand.
